Through The Darkness

(Note: Please pay no attention to my cringey voice acting. I am not normally a voice actor, but I wanted to give it a try for this game. It is my first time, so bare with me.)

Through The Darkness is my bafta-nominated immersive game where you navigate four dark mazes using sound cues and controller vibrations. Flares are optional (and limited), so use them wisely. Keyboard users can use the subtitles to know whether they are hitting the walls, and the game’s difficulty increases with each level.

To navigate, follow the sound and direction of the music, guiding you towards your goal. The rumble effects on the gamepad help detect wall collisions to know whether you are hitting a wall or not so then you can turn around. The flares light the way but are limited in number, so use them wisely (Optional). For keyboard players, subtitles serve as a substitute for rumble effects, simulating wall impacts. Though the game is playable with a keyboard, a controller is recommended for the best experience. The rumble feature is key for blind accessibility, allowing players to navigate through touch, mimicking the blind gamer experience.

Controls: Game Controller (Recommended):

• Use the joystick to move.
• Press A to activate flares and progress screens (for example from the title screen to the how to play screen).
• Press B to change colour mode.
• Use Up/Down D-Pads to adjust colour intensity.

Keyboard:

• Use WASD/arrow keys to move.
• Press the Space Bar to activate flares.
• Press B to change colour mode.
• Use - and = to adjust colour intensity.

Audio & Feedback: Headphones are essential for following the music’s sound and direction. The Gamepad rumble feedback helps detect wall impacts. Keyboard users receive subtitles to track wall collisions similarly to gamepad users.
